First introduced in 1953, Submariner Date is one of Rolex’s most iconic sport watch. As a usual Rolex watch, Submariner has cyclops date window at 3 o’clock that magnifies the date by 2.5X. Also, as this is a dive watch, Submariner has a oyster bracelet with a buckle that allows the length to be increased, designed to fit over the diver’s suit. However, this feature is useful in everyday life because people’s wrist size differs by time. Submariners also feature a Mercedes hour hands. If look carefully on the hour hand, circle logo looks very similar to the logos on Mercedes cars. Unidirectional bezel is designed because since the life of the divers are directly connected to the time measured by the watch, unidirectional bezel prevents the bezel from being accidentally turned. As the name Oyster-Perpetual shows, name Oyster was given to symbolize Rolex’s achievement of crafting first fully water and dust proof watch. To commemorate the Oyster achievement, all the Rolex watches are water and dust proof with Submariner having resistance up to 300m/30bars. Rolex also makes their watches with closed back to improve water resistances and to follow goal of Rolex to make their watches sturdy and accurate. As this is Rolex’s most favored watch, this watch often is being sold over its retail price. In fact, the waiting time from the official Rolex boutique for this watch is usually 6 month to a year.
