Today, I am going to talk about the notorious Ballon Bleu 36mm of Cartier.
Famously known as Ballon Bleu, it is an unisex model that gets lot of love from its unique design and brand.
This particular watch is the ref. WGBB0009 of Ballon Bleu.
Sized at 36.6mm, it features 30m of water resistance along with an automatic movement.
Made entirely out of 18k pink gold, it is hard to come by. Reason being, compare to the more common steel version priced at 6,050USD, this pink gold model is marked at 13,600USD.
However, the pink gold does add to the elegance of the watch.
Ballon Bleu has the iconic blue sword hands with guilloché dial that adds to watch’s aesthetics.
Being a 18k gold watch, scratches are unavoidable.
Also, compare to the steel version, the material does add noticeable weight to it.
But, because Cartier has a rather calm, elegant, and luxurious brand identity, I would personally recommend this pink gold model over the yellow gold model.
Black plate is also solid pink gold with various engravings on it.
From this angle, it is easier to see the fluted crown with blue cabochon-shaped sapphire.
For those of you guys who are not familiar with Ballon Bleu model, Ballon Bleu means “Blue ball” or “Blue balloon” in French, coming from the blue sapphire on the crown.
In addition, overall shape of the watch is rather round and has balloon like shape.
Moving on to the strap of this watch, this Ballon Bleu is equipped with an alligator skin strap that I think goes well with the entire mood of the watch. However, this particular strap was bought separately to add D-Buckle option.
Compare to the stock strap, this optionally strap is darker in color and does not have any holes in it.
This dark brown strap is relatively stain resistant and comfortable.
One special feature of this particular Ballon Bleu is the D-buckle or Deployment buckle option mentioned previously.
As far as I know, I believe that the pink gold deployment buckle itself costs around 4,000USD.
It originally comes with a pink gold pin buckle that Cartier calls ardillon buckle. Also, the watch originally comes with an alligator strap with holes in it.
Even though it is an expensive option to add, if you can afford it, it makes the experience much better.
Once you get used to the D-buckle of Cartier, it is very hard to go back to the conventional pin buckle.
However, if you happen to have a small wrist, D-buckle does interfere with the strap and bulges out, leaving marks on it
Overall, this Ballon Bleu of Cartier is a beautiful and aesthetic watch that would suit both men and women well.
